A bomb threat investigation put a high school in Garden Grove on temporary lockdown Tuesday, two days after a suspicious fire broke out at the same location, authorities said.
Officers at 1:45 p.m. were dispatched to Bolsa Grande High School (map), where a student had found a note indicating there was a bomb somewhere on campus, according to a news release from the Garden Grove Police Department.
The student turned the note over to school staff, who then initiated the lockdown, the release said. When the officers arrived, they began evacuating classrooms and instructed some 2,075 students to leave the campus.
Once they were off school grounds and accounted for, students were allowed to leave with their parents or walk home, officials said.
No suspicious devices were found during a subsequent search of the campus, which was declared safe at 3:30 p.m. Students and staff were then allowed to return and retrieve their vehicles, bicycles and other personal belongings.
The incident comes just two days after firefighters knocked down a blaze that gutted a classroom not far from where the bomb-threat note was found. It was unclear if the two events were related.
Investigations into the bomb threat and fire are ongoing.
