A man suffering “significant trauma” after possibly being stabbed was found dead on a roadway in the Whittier Narrows area of the San Gabriel Valley by sheriff’s deputies early Wednesday morning, officials said.

Officials were en route to Rosemead Boulevard and San Gabriel Boulevard (map) around 12:30 a.m. to investigate the stabbing death of a man, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department news release.

“When deputies arrived there were a couple of citizens stopped in their vehicles and there was a body in the roadway here on Rosemead,” sheriff’s Lt. Dave Dolson said.

On-scene officials would not confirm the man had been stabbed.

“The body appears to have suffered some significant trauma, but right now we really don’t know any circumstances behind the death of the man,” Dolson said.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
