At least one man died Sunday morning in a boating incident at Pyramid Lake in Gorman (map), and divers were searched the water for another possible victim, authorities said.
A man on a jet ski flagged down a deputy at about 11:20 a.m. and reported seeing “something suspicious” in the south part of the lake, near Chumash Island, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Additional deputies from the department’s Parks Bureau responded to the lake, located about 16 miles north of Castaic, and discovered a man and boat beneath the water’s surface.
The deputies pulled the man from the water and administered CPR but were unable to revive him, sheriff’s officials said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man “appears to have drowned, but the cause of death has yet to be confirmed,” the statement said.
Authorities were informed that the deceased person may have been accompanied by another man.
The department’s emergency services detail continued the underwater search throughout the afternoon, assisted by divers and watercraft from the L.A. County Fire Department.
“There are no signs of damage to the boat … and no obvious signs of physical trauma” to the man who died, according to Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez. “Also, there is no preliminary sign of foul play.”
The divers suspended their search about 8 p.m. They planned to resume their efforts at 5 a.m. Monday, officials said.
An investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing.
