One man died and another was arrested on suspicion of DUI Monday after a crash involving a motorized bicycle and car in Huntington Beach, authorities said.

Numerous 911 callers reported the collision, near the intersection of Bolsa Chica Street and Oahu Drive (map), about 6:30 p.m., police said in a statement.

Officers arrived to find people tending to the critically injured bicyclist, a 55-year-old resident of the Huntington Beach.

Paramedics responded to the location and transported the man to UCI Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries, officials said. His name was not immediately released, pending notification of family.

Near the scene, officers located a white 2013 Mercedes-Benz C250 believed to be involved in the crash, the Police Department said.

The driver, identified only as a 51-year-old Huntington Beach resident, was interviewed and later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

A preliminary investigation indicated both vehicles were heading southbound on Bolsa Chica when the cyclist was struck by the car, police said.

The department’s Major Incident Reconstruction Team was investigating the collision.
