Los Angeles County health officials have extended their warning against entering ocean water after the recent rains.
The advisory, which was supposed to last until Saturday morning, has been extended to 1 a.m. Sunday, the Department of Public Health said in a news release.
As is normal for the area, ocean water can be “contaminated with bacteria, chemicals, debris, trash, and other public health hazards from city streets and mountain areas after a rain fall,” DPH said, adding that the warning especially applies to areas near “discharging storm drains, creeks, and rivers” and includes “any runoff that may flow onto or pond on the beach sand.”
“This advisory may be extended depending on further rainfall,” officials said.
