An investigation was underway Thursday after a badly decomposed human torso was found in a garbage bag in rural Sutter County, according to KTLA sister-station KTXL.
The remains were discovered Tuesday by workers in a field near the community of Robbins, which is about 30 miles northeast of Sacramento, KTXL reported.
Investigators with the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department were using cadaver dogs to look for more remains, according to the television station. An anthropologist from Chico State University was also on hand.
The remains have not yet been identified.
“All we know is that the body looks to be a human body and that it’s been probably deceased for at least six to nine months,” an official with the Sheriff’s Department told KTXL.
An age and gender was also not currently known, he added.
