One person was killed after a shooting at a Cerritos shopping mall on Friday.
The incident happened at the Los Cerritos Center shortly before 4 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Shoppers were seen frantically running out of the mall as shots rang out.
Deputies with the California Highway Patrol’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force were conducting an operation at the mall when three suspects were spotted.
When authorities tried to apprehend the trio, two suspects — a man and a woman — drove away from the mall. The third suspect, a man, ran through the mall parking lot while armed with a gun, authorities said. That’s when the suspect was shot by an officer.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. The other two suspects were later tracked down and arrested in Pico Rivera.
Sky5 video showed a large police presence at the mall’s parking lot. Several portions of the lot were cordoned off with police tape as investigators arrived at the scene.
Some bystanders were seen near a mall entrance as authorities were speaking with them. Details remain limited and California Highway Patrol officers took over the investigation.
No officers were injured during the incident and the suspect’s firearm was recovered at the scene.
