Police could not initially locate a suspect or a victim, prompting officials to place three nearby schools on lockdown, the Glendale Police Department stated in a news release.

The lockdowns were lifted allowing students to head home safely when the suspect was discovered to be barricaded inside the home.

SWAT officers along with a crisis negotiation team were called to the scene to make contact with the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Vahan Keshishyan of La Crescenta.

Keshishyan surrendered after several hours of negotiations but when investigators went into the home they found the victim had succumbed to their injuries and had died at the scene, the Police Department said.

The identity of the victim has not been released pending family notification.

Keshishyan was booked on suspicion of murder and no further suspects were being pursued in the case, the Police Department said.

The relationship between Keshishyan and the victim remained under investigation.
