Arraignment was postponed Monday for Long Beach man accused of fatally stabbing a CSUN student from Saudi Arabia whom he met through a Craigslist car sale.
Agustin Rosendo Fernandez, 28, appeared in San Fernando Superior Court, where a judge granted his attorney’s request that his arraignment be postponed to Jan. 21.
Fernandez was ordered held without bail. News cameras were not allowed to record video of the defendant.
He is accused of killing 23-year-old Abdullah Abdullatif Alkadi, who disappeared Sept. 17 after posting his Audi A6 for sale on Craigslist.
Alkadi’s body was found about a month later by the side of the 10 Freeway in Palm Desert.
He was killed in an attempt by the defendant to keep his car and the purchase price, Los Angeles Police Department officials have said. Fernandez was in possession of Alkadi’s Audi when he was arrested, and the vehicle contained evidence related to the victim’s stabbing death, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said.
The death of third-year electrical engineering student, who lived in Northridge, has generated intense interest in Saudi Arabia, postings on social media show.
Fernandez was charged Oct. 20 with one count of murder with the special circumstances of murder during a robbery and murder during a carjacking, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Fernandez is eligible for the death penalty.
