A man was in critical condition Sunday after three people severely beat him in the parking lot of Angel Stadium in Anaheim after the baseball team’s Friday night playoff game.

The unidentified man, who is in his 40s, was walking back to the stadium’s main parking lot with a relative at 10:30 p.m. when he was approached by three men and assaulted, according to Lt. Bob Dunn with the Anaheim Police Department.

A passerby who saw the victim down alerted an Anaheim police officer who was working in the parking lot. The officer found the man laying on the ground and unresponsive.

He was rushed to a local hospital and last reported to be in critical condition, Dunn said.

The victim did not provoke the men, according to Dunn, who added that the motive for the beating remained unknown.

Police did not have a description of the three men wanted in connection with the attack.

It was not immediately clear whether any surveillance cameras captured the assault.

The Angels were scheduled to play in the third game of the American League Division Series against the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon in Kansas City.

KTLA’s Geoff Peters contributed to this report.
