An Amber Alert issued Wednesday morning for a toddler who was abducted from West Covina was canceled several hours later when police found the boy safe and arrested the suspect, police said.

The Amber Alert was issued shortly after 1:30 a.m. when California Highway Patrol officials alerted the public they were searching for 46-year-old Wesley Williams.

Williams had allegedly abducted his 1-year-old son during an argument with his girlfriend and fled the area, a West Covina Police Department spokesperson told KTLA.

Police said Williams was driving a Toyota Tacoma and was last seen near North Grand Avenue in West Covina around 9 p.m. Monday.

Patrol officers later saw the suspect and child driving in West Covina around 11 a.m. Tuesday, police said in an update.

The suspect was taken into custody and the child was not harmed, Officer Tibbetts said.

No further details about the arrest or the initial altercation between Williams and his girlfriend were provided.
