Several public ceremonies were scheduled to take place around Southern California Thursday to honor 9/11 victims on the 13th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The Los Angeles Fire Department will hold three separate public ceremonies to honor the hundreds of first responders who lost their lives that day.

The first ceremony was scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. at the LAFD Museum and Fallen Firefighter Memorial at 1355 North Cahuenga Blvd. in Hollywood, according to LAFD’s website.

A second event would start at 10 a.m. at the LAFD Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center, which is located in the 1700 block of North Stadium Way in L.A. Fire Department Chief Ralph Terrazas, Mayor Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck were also expected to be in attendance, the Los Angeles Times reported.

At 6:30 p.m., the final event would be held in Sherman Oaks at LAFD Fire Station 88 located at 5101 North Sepulveda Blvd.

The Battleship Iowa was also honoring the first responders who died that day with two special 9/11 ceremonies in San Pedro.

At 11 a.m., a special memorial program featuring a presentation of colors will take place, followed by a presentation of wreaths, a fireboat salute, and a reading of the names of the first responders who were killed on September 11, 2001.

The Boys and Girls Club of Los Angeles Harbor will hold a Day of Remembrance event with a special candlelight vigil beginning at 7 p.m.

In Orange County, the Nixon Presidential Library and Museum will remember 9/11 with a special observance at 11 a.m.

The event would include a tribute to the fallen by the Orange County Fire Authority’s pipes and drums, patriotic music by a 200-member band, a chorus ensemble, and speeches by top local Marines.

These events were all free and open to the public.
