Officials on Tuesday announced a $50,000 reward in the murder case of Taalib Pecantte, a 7-year-old boy who was fatally wounded in a drive-by shooting in Mid City on Dec. 2.

“Somebody saw something,” said Los Angeles City Councilman Herb Wesson, adding that he would attempt to increase the reward to $75,000. “Now, each and every one of us can say that Taalib is in a better place, but it doesn’t help the mom, it doesn’t help the father … it doesn’t help us who expected to watch him grow up and spend time with him.”

Taalib’s mother, Sawan Mock, who suffered a graze wound in the shooting, tearfully recounted the incident.

“They knew my baby was in the car. I’m serious,” Mock said of the assailants. “It was so bright inside the car. I can still remember how dark it was outside.”

Authorities are looking for four men who approached on foot and “fired multiple gunshots” at the victims, who were inside a vehicle in the 1900 block of South Corning Street (map), at 8:55 p.m. on Dec 2., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The gunmen, described only as African Americans wearing black hoodie jackets, fled in a waiting white four-door sedan, said Lt. John Radke of the LAPD. “We do believe that these suspects are likely gang members,” he said.

One of the injured adults drove the three victims to a hospital before officers arrived at the scene, police said. Taalib, who was shot in the back, died the following day.
