A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck near the border of Riverside and San Diego counties early Friday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The temblor hit at 1:04 a.m. about 13 miles northwest of Borrego Springs, close to the cities of Anza and Warner Springs, the USGS reported.
The quake struck at a shallow depth of 0.9 miles and was felt across much of Southern California and even into northern parts of Mexico, according to the USGS.
To the north, there were multiple reports that the quake was felt in Lancaster and Barstow.
Dozens of aftershocks followed the quake, including several that registered a magnitude-3.0 or higher, seismologist Lucy Jones reported on her Twitter feed.
There were no reports of damage or injuries from the quake, said spokeswoman Jodi Hagemann with the Riverside County Fire Department.
