Three people were injured, two critically, Sunday afternoon after an SUV veered off the northbound 5 Freeway and crashed into the front yard of a home in Boyle Heights, authorities said.
The crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. when the vehicle left the freeway at the Calzona Street exit (map), the Los Angeles Fire Department said on Twitter.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s incident log, the black Ford Explorer struck a guardrail and light pole before coming to a stop in the yard.
A man and woman were in critical condition after the collision, and another man was in fair condition, the Fire Department said. The nature of their injuries was not immediately known.
Following the incident, the SUV was blocking the Calzona Street on-ramp to the northbound side of the freeway, the CHP said.
It was unclear what caused the collision.
