Officials on Tuesday released the names of a woman and two men who were killed late the previous afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in the Venice area that left another person critically injured.

Dimnike Clemmons, 19, Anthony Sage Jr., 18, and Lavell Boyston Jr., 18, were identified by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, which did not provide their cities of residence. They died after the car in which they were traveling collided with a tree and overturned shortly before 5 p.m. Monday in the 100 block of Via Marina in Venice, near Marina del Rey.

Los Angeles County and city firefighters responded to the scene and found two occupants had been ejected from the vehicle. The other two people inside the car were pronounced dead at the scene; their bodies were extricated from the wreckage by the emergency responders.

One of the occupants was transported to a trauma center in critical condition. That person has not been identified by authorities.

The roadway where the crash happened curves sharply and suddenly. Posted signs admonish drivers to slow down to 20 mph.

Some residents in the area described the turn as dangerous, adding that two people were hurt in a collision at the location about a month ago.

Authorities on Monday said they were investigating whether speed was a factor in the triple-fatal crash.

“There are signs posted, you know, precautionary signs. … I would hate to arrive at a conclusion about that right now, but it’s still under investigation,” said Officer Jacob Tafua of the California Highway Patrol. Asked if the occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the incident, Tafua said he did not know.
