The car was traversing the northbound 5 Freeway to the eastbound 118 shortly before 5:30 p.m. when it collided with three points on the roadway and went airborne, a CHP official at the scene said.

It landed in the 10700 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard and overturned, according to an alert from the Los Angeles Fire Department.

One woman, the right front passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene, the LAFD alert stated.

The victim was identified as Jessica Vides, from Sylmar, according to Lt. Kim of the L.A. County coroner’s office.

She was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, the CHP official said.

The driver, described only as a female, was critically injured in the crash. She was extricated from the convertible and transported to a local hospital, according to LAFD.

Authorities were still working to determine the cause of the fatal crash.
