Two teenage boys were stabbed and wounded Friday afternoon after a brawl broke out near a continuation school in Santa Ana, authorities said.

Classes were letting out at Community Day Intermediate and High School about 3 p.m. when a fight erupted involving about 20 to 25 people at the intersection of Civic Center Drive and Fairview Street, said Anthony Bertagna, spokesman for the Santa Ana Police Department. Another campus, Spurgeon Intermediate School, is located just south of the intersection.

Two boys, ages 14 and 17, were stabbed in the melee, Bertagna said.

The 14-year-old was transported to Garden Grove Hospital Medical Center in serious condition, and the the 17-year-old was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in stable condition, according to the Police Department.

Three people were detained in an ongoing search that was being conducted in neighborhoods east of the of the scene, Bertagna said.
