Authorities on Friday were searching for two men who confronted and “detained” two residents during a home-invasion robbery in a quiet Valencia neighborhood the previous night.
Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley station responded about 8:30 p.m. Thursday to call about a robbery in the 26500 block of Emerald Dove Drive, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
The residents, a man and a woman, had just returned to their house from church when one of them went outside to take out the garbage and was confronted by the men, according to the statement.
The resident was forced back inside the house and both residents were subsequently “detained” while the intruders, at least one of whom was armed with a handgun, ransacked the home, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The intruders eventually fled the home after stealing jewelry an unknown amount of cash. Both were described as black, 20 to 25 years old, about 6 feet tall and weighing 180 to 200 pounds.
The residents were not injured.
A neighbor told KTLA the couple was still in shock over what had transpired.
“Quiet neighborhood, good people, don’t know what’s going on,” said Robert Kaplan, adding “I’m going to be really aware of what’s happening. We have an alarm system, but maybe that’s not good enough. I don’t know.”
The home-invasion was the second in the Santa Clarita Valley in two days. On Wednesday, armed men posed as narcotics officers to trick their way into a home in nearby Canyon Country.
There was no indication that the two incidents were connected, sheriff’s officials said.
