One man was dead and another wounded early Tuesday after a shooting occurred following a report of an attempted break-in at a home in the mountain community of Running Springs, authorities said.

At about 12:15 a.m., 911 dispatchers received a call from a resident who told them there were subjects outside trying to break into their home, located in the 2500 block of Secret Drive, according a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Responding deputies were headed to the residence when they learned that a shooting had taken place at the home, the release stated.

The California Highway Patrol also responded to the scene.

CHP officers and deputies arrived at the house and found two men had been shot, sheriff’s officials said in the release.

One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He was expected to survive.

Investigators have not released the name of the slain man pending notification of his family.

No arrests have been made in the incident, which was being investigated by the department’s Homicide Detail. Several subjects were being interviewed as part of the investigation.
