Two officers with the Los Angeles Police Department were injured in a shootout with a suspect on Wednesday night, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred in the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood of South L.A., where the officers attempted a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet Malibu around 9 p.m. near the intersection of Broadway and Rosecrans Avenue.

The Malibu eventually came to a stop and the driver immediately opened fire on the officers, police said. The officers returned fire, though it’s unknown if they struck the suspect.
