Two men were booked for attempted murder Monday after a possibly gang-related shooting in Pomona that left a 21-year-old man hospitalized, authorities said.
Sergio C. DeLaCruz, 21, of Pomona, and Carlos A. Monge, 24, of Fontana, were each booked for attempted murder and were being held on $500,000 bail, according to a press release from the Pomona Police Department.
Multiple callers reported a shooting victim about 6:46 p.m. and said the gunmen may have fled the scene in an older red Chevrolet Astro van.
An officer arrived at the intersection of Dupont Street and Cathy Avenue (map) and attempted to catch up to the van when he saw it leaving the area. As he got closer to the vehicle, the driver and passenger exited the Astro and a foot pursuit ensued, police said.
One of the men was detained nearby, while the second man led officers on a lengthy chase, officials said. He was eventually taken into custody without incident.
Both men were identified as the suspects in the shooting, and a handgun was recovered at the scene, a spokesman for the Police Department said.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel airlifted the victim to a hospital in stable condition.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
