The blaze broke out at the multi-story structure in the 22500 block of Ocean Avenue around 2 a.m., according to Capt. Frank Millea of the Torrance Fire Department.

Thirty-four firefighters responded to the scene and found flames shooting out from two units, one on the first floor, and another on the second floor, Millea said.

They were able to knock down the blaze by 2:14 a.m., he stated.

When firefighters went into the involved units, they found a deceased person inside one of the apartments, according to Millea. The gender or age of the person who died was not immediately known.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators were still working to determine what sparked the deadly blaze.
