Correction: Officials with the Long Beach Police Department originally reported that one person was killed and two others were injured in this shooting.

A shooting at a party in Long Beach has sent one person to the hospital, police said.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers responded to a home in the 1900 block of Luray Street around 10:45 p.m. Saturday night on calls of shots being fired.

After initially confirming that one person was killed and two others were hospitalized in stable condition, LBPD officials confirmed with KTLA that only one person transported themselves to an “out of city hospital” for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to his upper body.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was engaged in a physical altercation with an unknown male suspect, which escalated when the suspect shot the victim,” LBPD said in a statement. “The suspect fled on foot towards an unknown direction prior to officers’ arrival.”

No other injuries were reported, and the both the suspect and the victim remain unidentified.

Detectives in Long Beach went to a nearby hospital believing that the victims there were from the Long Beach shooting, but they discovered that they were involved in another unrelated shooting in Carson.

In that shooting, one person was killed and two others sustained injuries but are expected to survive.

“Initially, it was believed two other victims were related to the incident…however detectives determined the other victims were shot in the city of Carson and unrelated to the incident in the 1900 block of Luray Street,” LBPD said.

Cell phone video taken during the gathering in Long Beach shows an altercation break out between several people and, when the large crowd quickly turned their attention to the fight, shots rang out.

It was reported that security was present at the party, but things still got out of hand.

A witness told KTLA 5’s Erin Myers that the chaos erupted very suddenly.

“We were just chilling and having a good time, then out of nowhere we heard three gunshots,” said Jaiden Stephens, who attended the party. “[People started] running and hopping fences.”
