One person is dead and another in custody after a disturbance and a fire in Tujunga on Monday.

The blaze in the 10200 block of North Silverton Avenue was reported just before noon, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department, and a two-story hillside home was showing smoke as firefighters arrived.

Firefighters found a blaze on the lower floor, and 34 firefighters were able to extinguish it in about 23 minutes, the department said in an update.

Officer Miller of the Los Angeles Police Department said officers were responding to a report of a disturbance at that address and the fire was already blazing when they arrived. Aerial footage from Sky5 showed visible fire damage on an exterior wall of the home.

One person has been taken into custody and a man is dead, though the relationship between two and the events leading up to the death remain unknown, Miller said.

Firefighters said the man was found dead toward the back of the home and another man was hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

It is unclear if the man being treated for smoke inhalation and the person who was detained are the same person, but LAFD Capt. Eric Scott said firefighters were “confronted” by the man suffering from smoke inhalation.

“We quickly triaged, treated and transported that adult male to a local hospital,” Scott said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
