A Los Angeles deputy city attorney was ordered to register as a sex offender after entering a no contest plea to a child pornography possession charge Tuesday, the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office announced.
In addition to registering as a sex offender for life, 57-year-old Christopher Garcia was placed on probation for five years by L.A. County Superior Court Judge Robert Vanderet, according to a news release from the DA’s office.
He would also receive sex offender counseling and would lose his law license, the release stated.
Garcia was arrested early last month, ten months after authorities served a search warrant at his San Pedro home and found child pornography images on his computer, prosecutors said.
The no contest plea comes less than a month after he pleaded not guilty to charges that included possessing and distributing child pornography.
Garcia had faced a possible 5-prison sentence if convicted on the charges, the Los Angeles Times reported at the time.
The Los Angeles Police Department investigated the case.
