The terrier named “Scotty” was killed Sunday afternoon in the 1500 block of Mirasol Drive (map), according to the dog owners’ son Edgar Fajardo.

“My parents had him for 16 years. They loved the dog,” Fajardo said.

Fajardo said his mother was looking for Scotty when she saw something in the corner of the backyard.

“When she got closer she realized that it was just the head,” Fajardo said.

Residents believe the coyotes live in a nearby wash and have killed several other pets in the neighborhood.

“I’ve lost three cats in the last year and a half to coyotes,” Wendy Bradley, a local resident said.

Bradley said she wants to see the coyotes relocated for fear they may become more aggressive.

“There are several little children in the neighborhood that could be vulnerable,” Bradley said.

Raising concerns further was the recent news that a 3-year-old girl was attacked by a coyote in Irvine on Friday.

Fajardo said his family planned to contact animal control Tuesday, after the holiday weekend.
