A downpour of heavy rain left a major intersection in Riverside flooded Tuesday morning as the Inland Empire and Orange County remain under a flood watch.

Rainfall is expected to continue during the morning hours on Monday and continue into the afternoon before another round of heavier showers falls later in the evening, the National Weather Service stated Tuesday.

A flood watch was issued Monday night for the San Bernardino County and Riverside County valleys and mountains, the Santa Ana mountains and foothills, San Gorgonio pass near Banning and Orange County coastal and inland areas will remain in effect through Wednesday morning.

“Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible” in those areas, the Weather Service stated in its advisory.

Forecasters are calling for a slight chance of thunderstorms Tuesday night before showers taper off on Wednesday.

Sunny skies and warmer weather are expected to return later in the week.
