Californians won’t have to travel far to experience some of America’s “best” beaches as the summer season approaches.

Four California beaches were named among the 25 “best” nationwide, according to a report from Travel & Leisure, a travel publication.

Coronado Beach in San Diego, Pope Beach in Lake Tahoe, Santa Monica Beach in Santa Monica and Carmel Beach in Carmel-by-the-Sea were included on the list.

  • Lake Tahoe
  • Santa Monica Pier

These beaches were included mainly due to location, activities and scenery.

“Different criteria define the perfect beach for different people, such as the quality of the sand, the waves (or lack thereof), level of seclusion, public transportation and accessible parking, whether there’s a boardwalk, activities, and even the amount of shade,” Patricia Doherty wrote in the post.

Still, the publication picked out beaches that are likely suitable for anyone.

Beaches in places like Hawaii, Maryland, Florida and Chicago, among others, were included in the list.
