Authorities cancelled an Amber Alert after a 2-year-old boy they say was abducted by his “armed and dangerous” father near Lamont on Sunday night was found.

Javier Vidal, 36, abducted his son Elias Vidal, about 10:30 p.m. at Florence Street and Ralph Avenue, just south of Lamont, according to the alert issued by the California Highway Patrol on behalf of the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

The CHP announced about midnight that the Amber Alert had been cancelled and the boy had been located. No further information was provided regarding the circumstances of the boy’s recovery.

It was not clear whether Javier Vidal or the gray, 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse with California license plate 4YDA136 he was believed to be driving were accounted for.

Officials described Javier Vidal as 5 feet 11 inches tall, 150 pounds, with a bald head and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and black jeans. He was considered “armed and dangerous.”
