Skateboarder Nathan “Doggface” Apodaca, who continues to spread his positive vibes on TikTok, stopped by the KTLA 5 Morning News on Wednesday.
The online star from Idaho Falls, who goes by @420doggface208 on TikTok, went viral last September when he shared a video of himself drinking the Ocean Spray’s Cran-Raspberry juice while skating to Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.”
After the video took off, that 1977 hit single catapulted back on the charts, tripling in sales, the Rolling Stone reported. The band also reported its best week ever on streaming.
Ocean Spray also gifted Apodaca, a 37-year-old father of two, with a new truck stocked full of the company’s products.
Before Apodaca’s internet fame he was working on a potato farm in Idaho and living in a trailer with no running water or electricity, the TikTok star told KTLA 5 Morning News.
Then in September 2020, his truck broke down while he was on his way to work. Luckily, he had a skateboard in his truck along with a bottle of Ocean Spray’s Cran-Raspberry juice.
As Apodaca rolled down a hill, he casually turned on his TikTok account, @420doggface208, and created a video that would make an internet sensation of his fairly prosaic commute to work.
In its first hour on TikTok, the video gathered some 100,000 views, he told KTLA. It now has more than 35 million.
The former lieutenant governor of Montana, Mike Cooney, did a tribute, as did comedian Jimmy Fallon — and endless others.
Apodaca said the video changed his and his two daughters’ lives.
With Super Bowl Sunday around the corner, Ocean Spray has officially partnered with Apodaca for a TikTok campaign that celebrates dance and guzzling down juice leading up to the Big Game.
It’s the first time the juice brand has officially struck a deal with the longboarding, juice-sipping influencer.
“Ocean Spray is my favorite juice and 2020 was a total ride for me,” he said. “It’s all about the good vibes and I am psyched now to be officially partnering with Ocean Spray this year on a campaign.”
Apodaca said he wants “everyone to learn some of my new moves with the #DoggfaceDanceVibes social campaign.”
In a TikTok video posted Wednesday, Apodaca encourages viewers to try his own choreographed dance, which incorporates the catch of an Ocean Spray Cran-Raspberry bottle, as they cheer on the Chiefs or the Buccaneers, or just for — as Apodaca would say — “good vibes.”
Ocean Spray, which has over 77,000 followers on TikTok, is using an original song created for the campaign. Apodaca encouraged other TikTok creators to join in and posting their own takes on Apodaca’s dance.
“It’s another great song all about positivity and getting through it,” Apodaca said. “It’s been a hard year and I’m here to bring people together.”
Ocean Spray and Apodaca both teased the campaign on Tuesday with a video showing how the viral star is preparing for the Super Bowl and his dance moves, which apparently include a lot of stretching, skating and drinking Ocean Spray.
Since going viral, Apodaca now has more than 6.4 million TikTok followers. For more info, follow Apodaca on Tiktok @420doggface208 or visit OceanSpray.com.
