Gayle Anderson was live in Los Angeles to learn about the NEW Belvedere Park Aquatic Center which opened in July in East Los Angeles. The $14.8 million facility is now home to a 12,750-square-foot Olympic-size competition pool—the only outdoor Olympic-size pool open to the public in East Los Angeles! To the delight of competitive swimmers, the competition pool is certified for both short (25 meters) and long (50 meters) course competition by USA Swimming.

The Belvedere Park Aquatic Center also features a 2,550-square-foot lap/instructional pool, a 1,100-square-foot children’s splash pool and a 1,100-square-foot leisure pool. In addition, there is an 11,500-square-foot pool building with restrooms, showers, changing rooms, an exercise room, classroom and staff offices. The new facility provides families with an array of exciting options for healthy, safe aquatic recreation and the opportunity to take swimming lessons that have the potential to save lives.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina provided funding to make this facility possible in order to help level the playing field for the next generation of Eastside kids who aspire to win Olympic gold.

The previous pool at Belvedere Community Regional Park was built in 1950 and welcomed hundreds of thousands of swimmers for more than 60 years. It was demolished in 2013 to make way for the new, state-of-the-art facility.

In addition to East Los Angeles, there are several public Olympic-size pools located throughout Los Angeles County. Please note: Pool schedules vary between year-round and seasonal schedules.
