Gayle Anderson examined what has been described as “the most underappreciated portion of any vehicle”: the tires! The Petersen Automotive Museum presents the exhibit “How We Roll: Tire Exhibit Presented by Vredestein Tire.”

This exhibit teaches us about the evolution of tires, from rudimentary metal and leather rings placed on wooden wheels to protect them from damage, to today’s computer-designed pneumatic tires made with advanced synthetic materials.

The Petersen Museum explains that tires are often overlooked or taken for granted. Despite their basic appearance, tires are sophisticated pieces of equipment that have evolved over more than a century.
