On this Valentine’s Day, we heard from an old friend.
It’s been 14 years since Barney had a one-on-one conversation with the public. His show “Barney and Friends” aired its last episode in 2010.
But our favorite purple and green dinosaur from our imagination has returned on this day of love with a special message posted to Instagram and TikTok.
“Happy Love Day everyone!” the caption read. “What a tee-rific day to be reminded that you are loved. Your Friend, Barney.”
In the over one-minute video, the loveable Tyrannosaurus Rex shared a longer message to his friends.
“I haven’t seen some of you in a long time, but I always make sure to check in on my friends. And it seems like, maybe, we could all use a little reminder right now,” he said. “A reminder of the super-dee-duper ability we all have to love one another. And how important it is to show love towards yourself too.”
He acknowledged that many of his friends have grown up, but had this reminder:
“After a long day on the playground of life, I want you to know, you are seen, you are special, you are loved,” he continued. “Isn’t it nice how some things are still true, even when you’re all grown up?”
“Well friends, it’s been stuuuu-pendous to see you all. And I have a feeling I’ll be seeing you again soon!”
Barney is referencing Mattel’s relaunch of the franchise.
This will include the animated series “Barney’s World” coming this year to MAX, a live-action feature film in partnership with Daniel Kaluuya, plus a full range of kids’ products including toys, books, and clothing – with more yet to be announced.
