- Redessigned Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class due in 2025
- Compact sedan will debut MMA modular platform
- Buyers will have choice of electric or hybrid power
A new generation of the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class compact sedan arrives next year, and Mercedes has given another sneak peek, this time with a video featuring CEO Ola Källenius taking a prototype for a spin.
Mercedes already used the backdrop of the Festival d’Hyères held in France in October to present a lightly camouflaged prototype, and the new video reveals more details like the design of the headlights and parts of the cabin, including a clear look at the car’s panoramic glass roof. Källenius also confirms that a high-performance AMG variant is the pipeline.
The version in the video is powered by an electric powertrain, but the new CLA-Class and other members of Mercedes’ next-generation small car range will offer buyers a choice of electric or hybrid powertrains.
Mercedes first previewed the design of the new CLA-Class with the Concept CLA-Class unveiled at the 2023 Munich auto show. Prototypes have also been spotted testing on public roads for more than a year.
Sales will start in 2025, meaning the new CLA-Class should arrive as a 2026 model in the U.S.
Details from last year’s CLA-Class concept that are expected to make production include a Mercedes star logo pattern in the taillights, as well as a dash that consists of one wide panel integrating screens for the digital gauge cluster and infotainment hub, plus circular vents for the climate system.
Underpinning the car is a new modular platform known as the MMA. Though designed primarily for electric powertrains, the platform supports gas engines in hybrid configuration. The platform also supports high-performance electric powertrains for the planned AMG version that has also been spotted testing.
EVs based on the MMA platform are expected to have a range of around 300 miles, as well as an 800-volt electrical system that will enable well over 100 miles to be added in less than 15 minutes when using a DC fast charger.
In addition to the CLA Class, Mercedes’ next-generation small car range will include new versions of the GLA-Class, GLB-Class, and CLA-Class Shooting Brake. The current A-Class hatchback and B-Class minivan will be the last of their kind.
