- Order books for 2025 Durango already open
The Durango is the last Dodge still available with a Hemi V-8, but the engine’s days in the popular three-row SUV are coming to an end.
Dodge hasn’t put an expiration date on the V-8 just yet, but it is dropping one of the Durango’s three available V-8s for the 2025 model year.
The American muscle brand announced on Wednesday that the 2025 Durango, which is already available for order, will only be available with 360-hp 5.7-liter and 710-hp supercharged 6.2-liter V-8s, plus the base 360-hp 3.6-liter V-6. The previously available 475-hp 6.4-liter V-8 has been dropped.
The supercharged 6.2-liter V-8, reserved for the Durango SRT Hellcat model, will also be offered in limited numbers only. Parent company Stellantis stopped production of the engine at the end of 2023, and remaining stock is being wound down. The 2025 Durango SRT Hellcat is the last Stellantis product available with the engine, and the high-performance SUV receives some special editions to celebrate it. These include the Silver Bullet, Hammerhead, and Brass Monkey.
Dodge is also celebrating 20 years of the Hemi V-8’s availability in the Durango for the 2025 model. It has launched a special R/T 20th Anniversary model packing the 5.7-liter V-8.
There haven’t been any major changes to the Durango for 2025, though the lineup has been streamlined. In addition to the special editions and the SRT Hellcat performance flagship, buyers can choose from a base GT model and a mid-range R/T. The GT comes with the V-6 and the R/T with the 5.7-liter V-8.
The GT’s available Plus Package has also been enhanced with more standard features, including a power sunroof, navigation, a nine-speaker Alpine audio system, heated first and second rows (with venting for the first row), and a range of electronic driver-assist features. A 10.1-inch touchscreen has also been made standard on all 2025 Durangos.
Dodge is expected to launch more special-edition Durangos before all V-8 engines are finally dropped. Just it did with its last V-8-powered Challenger and Charger muscle cars, Dodge also plans a series of “Last Call” special editions to mark the end of the V-8’s run in the Durango. The first of these was revealed in January as the 2024 Durango SRT 392 AlcHemi, and more are planned for 2025.
Dodge is then expected to introduce a replacement for the Durango in 2026, which is currently rumored to be a smaller crossover reviving the Stealth name.
