Kareen Wynter

Kareen Wynter is a general assignment reporter with KTLA’s Emmy Award-winning news station. You can often catch her weekly field reports on the evening newscasts. Since joining KTLA in July 2013, Kareen has covered a variety of stories from Arsenio Hall’s historic late-night television return to the high-profile Jackson vs. AEG Live civil trial.

Kareen joined KTLA from CNN/U.S., where she was an entertainment correspondent for the network. While based in Los Angeles for seven years, she reported extensively on a variety of stories including the death of Whitney Houston, the Conrad Murray involuntary manslaughter trial and the 2007 Hollywood writers strike. Kareen, who also co-hosted the Academy Award’s red carpet pre-shows for CNN/HLN, was a regular contributor on HLN’s “Nancy Grace,” “Dr. Drew” and “Showbiz Tonight.”

Before joining CNN/U.S. in Los Angeles, Kareen spent several years in Washington, D.C., as a CNN Newsource correspondent. She provided breaking news reports and custom live shots for more than 800 of the network’s station affiliates. The national headlines took Kareen across the country, even internationally, where she traveled to file stories on the passing of Pope John Paul II, Martha Stewart’s prison release and the storm-ravaged regions following Hurricane Katrina.

Prior to KTLA and CNN, Kareen reported for several news stations in the Midwest, including WEWS-TV in Cleveland; WTVG-TV in Toledo, Ohio; and KBJR-TV in Duluth, Minn. Kareen received her Master of Arts degree in broadcast journalism from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. She also attended Boston College, where she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology.

While Kareen has a true passion for journalism, her other interests involve mentoring teens in her community as well as working with the Children of the Caribbean Foundation, where she is an honorary board member. The non-profit organization offers relief and assistance to under-served kids in the Caribbean and California in the areas of education, healthcare and social development.
