SACRAMENTO (KTLA) — Lawmakers from six states, including California, are proposing increased taxes on firearm sales.
Congressional Democrats are pushing for an additional 10 percent tax on handgun purchases.
The new bill will be introduced in California, Nevada, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Washington State.
In California, lawmakers are also proposing a nickel tax on every round of ammunition sold in the state.
They argue that a tax increase would help to pay for gun buyback programs and firearms safety campaigns.
But the proposals are likely to face resistance from Republicans, who are presently opposed to tax hikes of any kind.
