Elidia Dominguez, 65, was apparently on her way to vote when she was shot in the torso and critically injured by a gunman in a quiet neighborhood along the 500 block of 4th Street Nov. 8.

The gunman, a 45-year-old who was apparently high on cocaine, killed a 77-year-old man and injured another woman before he was killed by police.

The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.

Dominguez was airlifted to Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center where she has undergone 2 surgeries. Her family said she she remains in critical condition.

“She probably didn’t even expect it, but she must have gone on survival mode because I heard she ran was able to knock on a house,” the victim’s son, Carlos Dominguez, told KTLA about the shooting.

“Unfortunately the road to recovery looks to be long and slow,” the GoFundMe page says.

Dominguez is the primary caregiver to her husband, a Vietnam veteran who has recently become bedridden since recovering from brain cancer.

“She is already anxious to go home and take care of him,” her family wrote on the fundraising page.

Dominguez also has two children and seven grandchildren who are eager for her to return home.

“She is always thinking of other people and always giving more than she can,” the GoFundMe page states.
