A 9-year-old girl was hit and killed by a vehicle after getting off a bus in Valencia Monday night, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials said.

The incident was reported about 7 p.m. near the intersection of Wiley Canyon and Orchard Village roads, said Sgt. Brian Hudson.

The girl got off the bus and apparently darted across traffic lanes, Hudson said. She made it past the northbound lanes but was struck by a car traveling south in the No. 2 lane of Orchard Village.

A deputy came across the crash and began administrating CPR. He was assisted by a passerby who happened to be a nurse, Hudson said.

The girl was taken to Henry Mayo Newell Memorial Hospital where she died about 30 minutes later. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.
