A Glendale woman and her daughter were charged on Monday in connection with a hit-and-run accident that left an elderly man dead, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

Goar Davtyan, 67, was charged with one felony count of hit-and-run driving resulting in death and her daughter, Alina Davtyan, 42, was charged with one felony count each of insurance fraud and accessory after the fact.

The elder Davtyan is accused of running over Martiros Arutyunyan, 81, while he crossed the intersection of Broadway and Belmont Street on April 16, prosecutors said.

Goar Davtyan allegedly fled the scene after hitting the elderly man. Arutunyan suffered from head injuries and died at a local hospital, according to police.

Two days after the accident, Alina Davtyan allegedly filed a false insurance claim in order to repair the damage to the car and hid her mother’s involvement, prosecutors said.

Both women pleaded not guilty to the charges and are scheduled to return to court on Nov. 1.

If convicted, Goar Davtyan faces a possible maximum sentence of four years in state prison. Her daughter, Alina, faces five years in county jail.
