A former high school teacher and coach was sentenced to prison on Friday for engaging in unlawful sex acts with her underage student.

Rebecca Eileen Diebolt, 37, was sentenced to three years and eight months in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s office.

Diebolt was employed as language arts teacher and girl’s swim and water polo coach at Valencia High School in Placentia when she began an illegal sexual relationship with a then 15-year-old student, prosecutors said.

Between 2004 and 2008, Diebolt engaged in sexual acts with the student, known only as Jane Doe, according to police. The incidents occurred in Diebolt’s classroom at the high school,  her home after school and on weekends.

The relationship continued after Jane Doe graduated high school and began college. The victim reported the crimes in June 2014 and Diebolt was arrested one week later.

She pleaded guilty to one felony count of oral copulation with a minor under 16 and one felony count of sexual penetration with a foreign object of a minor in January.
