A 57-year-old man was charged on Friday for striking a teen who was playing Pokémon Go in a Long Beach neighborhood, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office.
Jayson Louis Lingen, who was previously convicted of assault with a deadly weapon in 2013, was again charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon.
A 17-year-old boy was playing the location-based reality game in the 70 block of Aquarium Way on Aug. 17, when Lingen allegedly began yelling at the teen.
He then allegedly hit the boy in the head with a metal pole, prosecutors said. Police were called following the attack and Lingen was taken into custody.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday afternoon at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Long Beach Branch.
Lingen faces a maximum possible sentence of 13 years in state prison if convicted. Prosecutors will ask that his bail be set at $100,000.
