A 23-year-old woman who is pregnant was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter after a crash that left a man dead in Madera County Friday night, according to reports and inmate records.
Candice Nicole Ooley was driving northbound on Highway 41 about 9:50 p.m. when she rear-ended a Hummer H3, causing it to go down an embankment, a California Highway Patrol officer told the Fresno Bee.
A 47-year-old man was killed in the crash, according to television station KFSN in Fresno. Three others in the Hummer, including the driver, were hospitalized with moderate to major injuries.
Their conditions were not immediately known.
Ooley, of Clovis, was six months pregnant and allegedly “highly intoxicated” at the time of the crash, a CHP official told the station. She was also believed to have been speeding.
Ooley was booked into the Madera County Jail around 4 a.m. Saturday on two DUI-related offenses, gross vehicular manslaughter and driving on a suspended license after being convicted of driving under the influence, inmate records showed.
Her bail was set at more than $150,000, according to the jail record.
