An inmate died Sunday after possibly having a seizure, one day after the death of another inmate housed at a separate Los Angeles County facility was being investigated as “suspicious,” according to sheriff’s officials.

Inmates alerted deputies at the North County Correctional Facility — located at 29340 The Old Rd. in Castaic — that another inmate was having a seizure around 7:05 a.m. Sunday, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department news release stated.

The inmate became unresponsive while being transported to the facility infirmary, and was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel.

His cause of death will be determined by an autopsy, and his identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin, the news release stated.

The man’s death occurred one day after Gordon Rowell, 33, was found unresponsive in his cell at California State Prison, Los Angeles County — located at 44750 60th St. W. in Lancaster, a separate Sheriff’s Department news release stated.

Rowell was found after another inmate alerted prison guards that a man in a different cell was possibly unconscious, and Fire Department paramedics pronounced him dead around 9:44 a.m.

“The death is being investigated as suspicious pending the outcome of an autopsy,” the news release stated.

Anyone with information regarding the death of either inmate were asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
