A suspicious item that was reported near the Hollywood Christmas Parade route on Sunday turned out to be an empty bag, authorities said.

The item was initially discovered  near the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Orange Drive, prompting an a response from a bomb squad, Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed shortly after 3 p.m.

Upon investigation, police determined that the bag had been placed inside a U.S. Postal Service mailbox by a transient, said Sgt. Chuck Slater of the LAPD’s Hollywood Division.

No threats were made regarding the parade or the location, police said.

It was unclear if any evacuations were made at the scene.
