A man police say was armed with a gun was fatally shot by officers when he fled a traffic stop in Pacoima Tuesday.
The incident began just before 9 p.m. when gang enforcement officers pulled over a black BMW sedan for a traffic violation near Lehigh Avenue and Carl Street.
“The front passenger, a 20 yr old male, exited with a gun and ran,” the Los Angeles Police Department posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Police opened fire at some point during the foot pursuit and the suspect was struck by gunfire, the LAPD stated.
No further details about what led up to the shooting were provided.
The suspect, described as a 20-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No officers were injured in the incident.
It was unclear if the driver was arrested.
