A teenager was arrested after crashing a stolen car during a pursuit in San Bernardino County Tuesday.

The suspect was only identified as a 17-year-old Adelanto resident, according to the Victorville Police Department.

The teen was driving a Dodge Charger near Cholame and Cahuenga Roads in Victorville as officers attempted to pull the car over around 1:12 a.m.

The driver refused to pull over, leading officers on a pursuit.

During the chase, the suspect drove at high speeds near residential areas, authorities said. At one point, the suspect lost control and crashed into the garage of a home.

The collision struck a gas meter, causing a gas leak in the neighborhood. The driver then fled from the crash, officials said.

Officers immediately began evacuating homes in the area. Authorities began searching the neighborhood and the suspect was eventually found hiding on the roof of a nearby home.

Investigators also discovered the suspect’s car had been reported stolen out of Adelanto.

The teen was arrested on multiple charges including grand theft auto, possession of a stolen vehicle, conspiracy, and vandalism damages of $400 or more.
