A Santa Ana high school teacher has been arrested on suspicion of unlawful sex with a student, and police were investigating the possibility that the 45-year-old man may have had other victims.

Alvar Albert Gonzalez was taken into custody on Friday following a joint investigation between the Santa Ana Police Department and the Santa Ana Unified School District Police, authorities said.

He was booked into jail and being held on suspicion of possessing and producing obscene matter, and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, according to a news release from the Santa Ana Police Department.

Gonzalez allegedly arranged to meet the 16-year-old victim in his classroom at Santa Ana High School during school lunch breaks back in 2013. He was then accused of unlawfully having sex with her on at least nine occasions, police officials said in the release.

He was not reported at the time.

Then, in 2014, Gonzalez allegedly approached another female student and kissed her. He was subsequently placed on administrated leave by the Santa Ana Unified School District as a result of the incident while it was investigated.

During the investigation, district officials allegedly discovered “inappropriate” images of youthful-looking girls on the teacher’s electronic media storage devices, according to the release.

Detectives identified one of the victims and, after locating her, obtained a statement.

As the investigation into Gonzalez continued, authorities discovered additional images depicting alleged criminal activity between the teacher and the girl in 2013, police stated in the release.

His name no longer appeared on the school’s website. Deidra Powell, the chief communications officer for the district, told the Orange County Register that he was fired.

Gonzalez had taught at the high school since 2001, the newspaper reported.

Detectives said they were looking into the possibility that the teacher had other victims.

They have asked that anyone who suspected Gonzalez of having “inappropriate contact” with other students to contact them by calling 714-245-8542.
