A Fontana man has been arrested six months after he allegedly shot another man’s legs in Colton.

Roberto Ruiz, 28, was arrested at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday in Fontana, the Colton Police Department said in a news release.

Six months prior, on Oct. 1, 2023, Ruiz shot a 24-year-old Riverside man at 2250 W. Mill St., resulting in “severe injuries to his lower body,” the release said. That man was treated for his wounds at a local hospital.

Police did not say how Ruiz was identified as the shooter, nor what may have preceded the attack.

Ruiz faces a charge of attempted murder and is being held at the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center in lieu of $1 million bond, jail records indicate. He’s due to appear in San Bernardino Superior Court on Friday.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call Detective Anthony Jaeger or Sgt. Shawn McFarland at 909-370-5000.
